Every year at about this time in the summer, I love going on
weekend architecture & home garden tours or visiting historical homes to
see how other people adorn their homes, landscape and of course their craft
room. I am always on the lookout for crocheted afghans and pillows. It's an exercise
in design voyeurism (in a good way), and I always walk away feeling a little
creative rejuvenation and inspiration.
For those of you who also enjoy visiting
other's creative spaces, I have a treat for you! This weekend we're hosting a
Meet-the-Designers Blog Tour to celebrate the launch of Unexpected Afghans: Innovative Crochet
Designs with Traditional Techniques by Robyn Chachula.
Unexpected Afghans presents 29 innovative interpretations of a favorite
crochet essential, the beloved afghan, from Robyn Chachula and her team of
expert designers and crochet masters. On
this exciting tour, you'll get a peek inside the homes and design inspiration
of 19 of the book's contributors.
Robyn Chachula writes in the book's introduction, "My initial approach
to this book was that pure sense of just being nosy-what do other crochet
designers have in their houses? That then morphed into, what would an afghan
look like at Leigh Radford's house or in Drew Emborsky's studio? And finally,
how amazing would it be to have all the masters work on one big canvas to
showcase our craft so we all can decorate our homes?"
"The results are astounding," says Robyn. "I asked each crochet designer
to use the afghan as a vehicle to showcase their favorite aspect of crochet.
Some went colorful, some turned to granny motifs, and others came up with
intricate stitch patterns. Each project highlights the beauty of crochet
cables, colorwork, lace, granny motifs, or Tunisian crochet. Plus, every
project has the intimate stamp of the designer's unique inspiration."
This
weekend blog tour kicks off right here on Crochet
