We see a crochet pattern and
fall in love. Then there is the excitement of finding the perfect yarn in the
perfect color and starting the pattern, watching the shape, texture, and design
unfold. And finally the exhilaration of wearing the finished garment or
accessory for the first time.
I want something with the
perfect feel and color just as I want my crochet garments to have the perfect
fit and color. So I decieded to apply the same solution-make them myself.
For the beginning jewelry
artist, I would highly suggest Stringing
magazine. They have a great selection of easy projects to make and inspire. I
sat down with the Winter 2012 issue and picked out a few of my favorite jewelry
projects and the crochet projects that I might pair them with.
The Red Rocks Wrap (at left) by Tracie
Barrett is a gorgeous Tunisian crochet wrap. This simple pattern is very
geometric in both the garment shape and the texture o the Tunisian simple
stitch patter, so I would love to pair it with jewelry that also explores
geometric shaping. It is the use of circles, squares, and triangles as well as
the faint pink cast of the medal that made me fall in love with Erin Strother's
eye-catching earrings and Triangulation necklace.
The Saturn Sweater by Linda
Permann (at right) is at the top of my crochet queue, and I love the rust and blue
autumnal colors. And it is those colors that I would play with in my jewelry.
These simple, earthy earrings by Katherin McKinney-Williams are perfect! I would
probably also wear Sandra Marie Miller's gorgeous Honeycomb Medley necklace.
But stunning pendant of Darcy Alice's Stone Age Raindrops would be gorgous as
Even crocheted accessories
deserve the perfect pit of sparkle. The elegance of the Galaxy Wrap by Susan
Jeffers (at left) would be set of beautifully by Arlene Kauffman's Salome neclace or Jean
A. Wells' stunning bracelet.
