The Boteh Scarf is one of the most popular crochet scarves
ever published by Interweave Crochet.
This simple motif scarf reminded designer Kathy Merrick of Persian carpet Boteh
(Old Persian for "cluster of leaves"). This classic motif can look like leaves,
pine cones, pears, or paisleys. And the wool/nylon blend yarn used creates a
beautiful drape and the perfect touch of warmth for a spring evening.

The innovative construction of the Boteh Scarf is created by
working each curving triangle perpendicular to the previous triangle. The first row of the triangle is worked in
half double crochet with each row decreasing in number of stitches, creating
the triangle. Then double treble stitches are worked into the row ends, giving
the triangle its distinctive curve and providing a base on which to begin the
next triangle. The process is repeated until the scarf is seventy-two inches or
your desired length. The construction of this scarf makes it incredibly easy to
modify. Make it a few motifs shorter or one motif longer.
