It's in the Yarn

Oct 7, 2013

My craft room is filled to overflowing. Along with the sewing machine and a couple boxes of fabric, I have filled every inch of wall space with bins and containers of yarn. Why do I need that much yarn? A wide variety of yarn constructions are available, from singles which consist of a single strand of generally loosely spun fiber to tightly spun yarns consisting of multiple strands. Each yarn creates a very different fabric.

The simple lace repeat pattern of the Aspen Infinity Cowl pattern by Linda Permann is made extra special by the yarn choice. This elegant cowl is crocheted with Tranquility by TSC ARtyarns. A luxurious blend of finely-milled fibers from Italy, one strand of Merino Wool and a second strand of blended cashmere/silk/merino, are gently twisted to create a softly-brushed, cashmere-feel yarn.

The first strand is gently brushed to create loft and a soft texture. The second strand is spun with a classic ply to create a uniquely contrasted yarn. Each strand is also dyed separately before being combined. The difference in twist means that each strand will take the dye slightly differently. Each 400 yard skein of Tranquility is handpainted by fiber artist Iris Schreier.

Play with this wonderful yarn and create a quick and easy cowl with a unique lofty lace.

Order your complete Aspen Infinity Cowl kit in one of three amazing colors: Twilight (soft grey), Tobacco Gold, or Aspen Foliage (burnt orange).

Best wishes,

P.S. What is your favorite yarn construction?

I chuckled to myself when I read your comment about your craft room overflowing.  We must all drive our spouses to distraction.  We moved in with our daughter and her family a couple of years ago, due to my increasing imobility.

On our side of the garage, I have 5 legal sized steel file cabinets full of mostly yarn, plus several boxes.  The car parks in the middle of these.  We also have a rented 8 x 10 storage room which is mostly filled with the 40+ boxes full of craft materials.  A few days ago my husband of 52 years said why don't you at least get rid of the file cabinets from the garage then we could have the kids bring up our chest freezer from the basement to replace the file cabinets.

I felt instant panic. "Those were the best containers to keep my oversupply of yarn in.  They stay clean inside and I can access it easier than from a box."

I told him that they were not going anywhere.  Then I added, "When I'm dead you can do anything you want with my crafts, until then, leave it alone."

I agree totally with you Carrol J...whatever would we do without our crafts????

I have crafts and projects of all kinds awaiting my attention...but there always seems to be one more I want to add. I am getting to use some of my yarn stash on 2 new afghan projects for gifts....but then comes the email with the discount offer, the sale price and more pretty colors of yarn...and the stash grows again! LOL!
