&lt;p&gt;The acrylic yarn I use is far from stiff. Caron Simply Soft; RedHeart Baby TLC; TLC baby are soooo soft and huggable I use them for all my projects. And because they are acrylic, you just throw them into the washer and dryer and they last for a LONG time. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Granted, there are acrylic yarns that are stiff, but not all of them.&lt;/p&gt;
