You already know about how crochet can enhance your life—the satisfaction of making something with your own hands, the joy of giving away handmade gifts, the serenity of sitting in a comfy chair, crocheting your stress away.
But, let's say your best buddy across the country has not been empowered by crochet. You know it can change her life, but you aren't in a place where you can fly off to her.
Here's what you can do: Send her Crochet Corner Basics and Beyond with Kristin Omdahl. Kristin will walk your friend through the basics – and I mean basics, like how to hold the hook and how to make a slipknot, how to make a chain, a single crochet, a double crochet. You know, those things you already know how to do. And for each tip and technique, your friend can go to KnittingDailyTV.com and download a pattern that demonstrates that technique.
I loaded up the DVD to check out these techniques, expecting to be all been there, done that. I checked out the basics, then clicked back to the menu for Advanced Techniques. Half an hour later, I was slow-mo'ing the Tunisian double-crochet stitch, with hook in hand, going “Huh! That's how you do that!” Next thing, I was pulling out my hairpin loom and going, “Ha! So you flip the loom that way. And how much easier to tuck the hook behind like that.” For that segment, I moved to the frame-by-frame view. Now I'm all wrapped up in yarn and hooks, and I know more than I did an hour ago.
All of which is to say that if you get the DVD for your friend, you might as well get one for yourself. It's that helpful. Here's Kristin with a preview of the DVD:
Happy crocheting to you and yours.
