Combine one ball of thread and a couple ounces of beads; work with
steel crochet hook; join to edge of scarf, shawl, coat, jeans, or shirt;
and wear. That is the basic recipe for beaded crochet garments,
accessories, or home decor items. And like most great recipes, the
recipe for bead crochet is open to your own interpretation. The Beaded Edge is the perfect recipe book.
In Turkey, these decorative edgings are called oya
and are used to decorate beautiful scarves that are often worn for
traditional or religious occasions. For generations in Turkey and
throughout the world, crochet edgings have been used both as a
decoration and a way to express emotions.

Pre-string
your beads onto your thread. You can use a beading needle or use Fray
Check to stiffen the end of your thread or yarn. Always pre-string more
beads than you anticipate using because adding more beads requires
breaking the yarn.
After
you have strung the beads and while working in pattern, keep the unused
beads against the yarn ball. This will keep them out of the way until
you are ready to work a beaded stitch.
