While the official first day of summer is a
few days away, it seems the season has made a surprise arrival a few weeks
early. My spring evening crochet wardrobe has already becoming too warm
to wear, and I need to quickly add few more summer tops to my closet.

Juanita Top by Kathleen Power Johnson |
One of the reasons I love crochet is the
multitude of lace stitches and techniques available. With a hook and a few
skeins of cotton, silk, or other warm-weather fiber, you can quickly create a
top that will create admiration and not additional warmth. And these tops are
perfect for hot summer days.
I am torn between two light-weight garments:
the Juanita Top by Kathleen Power Johnson and the Dolores top by Beatrice
Simon. The thing I like most about these two tops is the use of the Solomon's
Knot stitch. Though I have admired this crochet stitch for years, I am a relative newcomer to
creating this openwork stitch. It creates a lacy fabric perfect for
warm-weather wear.
Let's look at how to crochet the Solomon's Knot:
|
 |
|
Draw up a long loop on the hook to the length specified in
the pattern; yarn over, draw the yarn through the loop. |
| |
Work a long chain as the first part of the Solomon's Knot. |
| |
Insert the hook from the front to the back between the back
loop of the chain and the two front loops. Yarn over and draw the yarn through
the back loop (two loops on hook). |
| |
Yarn over once more, draw the yarn through both loops on the
hook. This creates a "single crochet" to close the Solomon's Knot. |
 |
|
Give Solomon's Knot a try with the Juanita Top or Dolores top. Download these ideal warm-weather patterns as
well as other great lace crochet tops in the Crochet Me Shop
and create the perfect summer wartdrobe.
Best wishes,
