"It's a granny thing, right? Wrong! It's the hottest and yet oldest look to hit fashion and a natural follow-on to vintage" ... "All this love and creativity in garments explains why there's a new appreciation of hand knitting. But fashion always looks ahead and crochet is the next step on for the knitter, and especially those who want quicker results."
Hm. The next step on for the knitter, eh? I like to look at crochet as more of a compliment to knitting, but if some see it as evolutionary, well so be it.
I really think the next step for both crafts is to begin combining the two in the fabric. A jacket with a crocheted body and knitted collar and placket? Crocheted handbag with knitted gusset? Knitted scarf with crocheted flower embellishments? Right now, I'm working on a felted crochet bag, but I love the I-cord, so knitting the handles. I just received a couple of issues of Mon Tricot from the 70's and found they did this more frequently than I expected. Julie
