Are you happy at work?

Oct 26, 2005

Zen Parry's art installation in an office building in Portland, OR, is aimed at asking the tough questions.

In my opinion the artist's blog is far more interesting than the article.

I wonder if they're going to hang the blanket off of Portlandia, who just happens to be on the front of that building. They decorate her for everything else, why not this?

ha! what an interesting story. thanks for posting about it. kind of makes you think doesn't it. i think i find comfort in the fact that i'm like a lot of people, not particularly all that happy at work, but i dont' have the faintest idea of what i should be doing instead.

This reminds me of our conversation about how even things we do for fun (crocheting, knitting) can become unpleasant when they have to be done (i.e. they become "work"). Parry's choice to make what many people I know consider a hobby into a job is interesting--it reminds me of the fact that I am lucky to be able to consider sewing or knitting a "hobby" as opposed to something that barely earns me a subsistence living...

Security with no warmth. Sounds like my job, all right. Can't say that I know very many people, or any people, come to think of it, that love their job.

Huh, imagine that - those look like.. yes, I think they are - Granny Squares! Made of plastic sheeting? Made with a "S" hook? Traditional shapes in contemporary medium...Fabulous!

Hello,Thankyou to everyone that has checked out my project. One of the visitors to the project told me about this website, so I am checking it out, and am thrilled to see that there is commentary. Thank-you to each of you that have looked at the blog too - you have added a gratifying element to my life as an artist - that crochets for my job. :-)zen
