Net Neutrality

Feb 21, 2006
Somewhat related to my recent post about possible email newsletter charges, the New York Times ran an editorial yesterday stressing the importance of "net neutrality" -- the prinicple that internet service providers (ISPs) should not be permitted to restrict access to sites that don't pay them for access.

Some I.S.P.'s are phone and cable companies that make large campaign contributions, and are used to getting their way in Washington. But Americans feel strongly about an open and free Internet. Net neutrality is an issue where the public interest can and should trump the special interests.

Right on, NYT.

Hmmm... reminds me of something a stupid provider in BC was doing during some sort of dispute. (I forget the details.)
