When it's too hot to sleep...

... what on earth do you do with yarn?

I know many of you live in places where summers are hot. I live in a place where summers are mild. Which makes this record-breaking heatwave we're having out here in the Pacific Northwest an unusual and, frankly, dauntingly unpleasant experience.

What on earth does one make in painfully hot weather? The only answer I can come up with is, "Nothing, silly! Go stick your feet in the ocean."

Please advise!

Cotton!! Or weaving. That stays well away from the body.

Oh, weaving. What a good idea! I have no loom, of course. But there are other ways. Ooh, and embroidery!

Lacework, especially with thread.

Lacework *in* cotton.

I vote for nothing. Honestly, it's so darn hot here in Seattle, with no A/C I'm basically surrounding myself with as little as possible. (As I longingly stare of that pile of yarn in the corner.)

I too live in the Everett area in the State of Washington, and I have noticed it got literally too hot to want to crochet/knit. If I was in air conditioned place, I could no problem. The only problem is most homes here, do not have air conditioning, as we usually don't get this kind of hot weather. I miss my 80 degrees!

I'm in Atlantic Canada where it's been hot & humid like it hasn't been in quite a while. At least not for this long! I can't go without crocheting lol no matter the weather. I have a fan that I keep blowing on me to keep me cool. Helps big time & keeps my crochet fingers happy. LOL

Ice sculptors with ice cubes and household objects for tools. I'm only half-kidding. :)

Ha! Though it was too hot in here to sculpt ice. It would have half melted before I could even start to make a mess!

What Hot Weather?

We had an exceptional hot, very hot, should I say, mini-heat wave, here in the U.K., in mid-June! This was during Wimbledom fortnight! Everybody in the U.K. loves

the tennis tournaments in June especially when it is hot! The temperatures reached '38C'.

We all loved this hot sun-shiney weather and everyone came to work (us ladies) in their lovely summer clothing, flowered sun-dresses, skirts, cropped pants and vest-tops saying, 'isn't it wonderful, all this hot sun'! Some said it was too-hot! A lot of people could not sleep as it seemed to be hotter during the night.

Well, I went to work in my lovely hand-crocheted summer tops, and my lady colleagues asked where I bought them from. 'Buy'!, I said, 'No'!, 'I made this myself! No-one else has got one of these tops exactly the same'! It does make me feel quite proud when a work colleage admires one of my crocheted garments, as it means that I have done a 'good job' out of crocheting the garment myself!

But the hot weather did not last very long and everybody was crying for the rain! And, the rain has not stopped... since! It's raining now...!

But this hot weather did not put me off crocheting, though! We don't get the same temperatures as yourselves in the USA. I would just like to say, 'Happy Crocheting, what ever the weather may bring'!

thread! definately thread! if you don't crochet with thread, this is the right time to learn. but don't forget a touch of talcum powder on your hands to keep the sweaty fingers to a minimum!

I just finished an estonian lace shawl for my future DIL. Finsihed up just before the weather got really hot. I just started a project out of the latest Interweave Crochet mag, one of the wedding accesories. I am crocheting the purse for myself in a color called "copper mist" which will match my dress and shoes. After that I think I will crochet the rose choker from the free patterns section for the bridesmaids.

So bascially I am doing cotton thread crochet projects to beat the heat until Fall arrives.

When it's too hot to deal with fuzzy yarn, I crochet with my grocery bags! The plastic bag 'yarn' is perfect for taking along to the beach because you don't have to worry if it gets wet or sandy! I make tote bags and reusable grocery totes from the plastic bags. I love it in the summer!
