Update: Sprout Chains Shawlette

Jan 30, 2011

On Jan 17, I posted a blog about starting the Sprout Chains Shawlette from Kristin Omdahl's Crochet So Fine. And it's done!

This is indeed speedy pattern! I finished it in just over week—and it was a very busy week, one where a day or two passed without my picking up a crochet hook. Plus I was distracted by one or two other fluffy things, so really you could finish this shawlette in just a few days.

Here she is, ready for blocking:

The yarn is Three Irish Girls Adorn Sock (80% merino, 20% nylon) in colorway Kate. I worked it on a Tulip hook size 7 (4.50 mm). (I mention the brand of hook because hook sizes can vary a weensy bit across brands. Also, I rather love Tulip hooks—they're ergonomically friendly.)

The rows are pretty close together in the pre-blocking stage. But after soaking it for 20 minutes in warm water, then stretching it out to dry on the foam board, the chains opened out quite a bit.

And here's Peggy Sue to model:

It's a functional scarf, because the merino gives warmth. But it's also great to wear all day long, particularly when your day needs a lift.

I love this shawlette! So much so that I've started another:

This gorgeous glimmery yarn is Studio Silk (100% plied silk) by Stitch Diva Studios (I'm using Tulip size F-5 / 3.75 mm). This is the same yarn Kristin used to make the model in her book; the color she used is snakeskin. My color is Galactic Blue—even the name is energizing! Can't wait to finish this and add it to my wardrobe.

Have you made this shawlette? I'd love to see pictures!
Best,

Marcy
