Good question, suzeldas! I grabbed a hook from my cup o' hooks next to my crochet chair. It was the small side of medium. I think it was an E. The beauty here is that you can use just about any yarn and use the hook that gives you the tension you like. Sorry I can't be more specific about the hook used for this particular snowflake!

Yes, I too tried to downsize the yarn stash. I was on a "Just say 'no'" program. It worked for the most part...some new colors still snuck in. This year it's the "downsize the fiber" plan. I no longer repsond to those Craigslist ads for free fiber. But I did take on a friend's need to process 8 years worth of mohair, which started last fall. So I never did get to my own fiber (alpaca, angora & shetland,) but I added many pounds of raw mohair to it. And I did buy a couple of pounds of processed alpaca in colors I didn't have. So I'll make it a point to process & spin at least a pound a month, no, better make that two pounds a month. Or sell it...that would work, too.

Thanks Marcy! I am OBSESSED with crocheting socks, and even signed up for the Sock Crochet class at Stitches West. I am experimenting with all kinds of socks, and want to have some experience to prepare for the class.

For Christmas I made 3 sets of pedicure/spa socks for friends. They are unique, and have no heel gusset and no toe - no-brainers! See pictures at www.craftsy.com/project/view/Pedicure-socks/17481

As much as I love crocheting socks, these spa socks took 3 hours each (6 hours per pair). Has that been everybody's experience??

I concur agree with your comment Roxanne!! I bought the Summer 2009 issue for the pattern - and it said to go on line; found that it was no longer available.

Last resort solution.... add more random green blotches to the shawl. It didn't look like a pretty green, but if you repeat it randomly throughout, no one will know it was not supposed to be there.
