I fell in love with Betty's Button-Up Mitts while we were
putting together the Interweave Crochet Accessories
2010 issue. I had made several pairs of mitts from a variety of patterns
already, but these mitts had something more, perhaps a bit more sass.
The winters in Colorado are cold, and I spend a great deal of time
typing on my keyboard. Mitts are the perfect choice for covering my wrists and
keeping me warm while leaving my fingers free. In fact, I'm wearing the a pair
of Orchard Mitts right now. Mitts also make great gifts. They are one size fits
all and a brilliant one skein accessory project.
For this set of Betty's Button-up Mitts, I found two partial
skeins of worsted wool, and I worked the last three rows in gray to highlight the elegant button edge. I also used identical, round buttons to give this set of
mitts a more Victorian theme than the original Steampunk sample.
I plan on making a second, striped set of these mitts for a good friend. Since each mitt takes only about an hour to crochet, I may even whip up a couple of pairs for my quick gift box.
Do you wear or crochet mitts? I would love to know about your favorite pattern.
