Official contest rules

Enter Interweave Crochet magazine and’s Chain Reaction Afghan Project and your design could be featured in the Chain Reaction Afghan, shown in Interweave Crochet magazine. Besides fame, winners will also receive $100 for their design and a contract with Interweave Crochet.

Entrant will enter the contest by uploading a photograph of her or his design onto the Chain Reaction Afghan Project Reader Gallery by midnight EST on August 3, 2010. All designs must be original and must 12 x 12 inch afghan squares comprised of worsted, size 4 yarn. The editors of Interweave Crochet magazine will select the top 20–30 entries as finalists for an online voting poll early-September 2010. community members will be given an opportunity to vote for their favorite squares and the ten squares receiving the most votes will be featured in the final afghan design, which will consist of ten squares from designers featured in the Summer and Fall 2010 issues of Interweave Crochet magazine and ten squares chosen from contest entries. Entrants will be notified of their status via announcements posted at the website by September 15, 2010. All winners are required to submit their actual project with step-by-step instructions and complete materials, tools, and resources lists to Interweave Crochet magazine by September 27, 2010, for contracting as described below. The Interweave Crochet contract that will be offered to winning entrants includes a payment of $100 for rights to publish the winning entry and related materials. Winning designs will be published in Interweave Crochet Winter 2010 or Spring 2011 magazine.  And, with the permission of winning entrants, all winning designs will be auctioned off to a good cause in the final afghan design.

All designs entered in the contest must be new, original, and not available for sale and must not have won any previous contests. All photographs of designs must be taken by the entrant or cleared for all uses with the copyright owner of the photographs. Entrants must create and complete the finished design on their own and without outside assistance. The Chain Reaction Afghan Project is open to adults who are 18 years of age or older on the day they submit their entry. Entries can be received from anywhere in the world except where the contest is restricted or prohibited by law.  Employees, vendors, agents of Interweave Press and Interweave Crochet sponsors and related companies and their immediate families are not eligible.

Designs must be uploaded to’s Chain Reaction Afghan Project reader gallery and received by midnight EST on August 3, 2010. PLEASE UPLOAD ONE (1) PHOTOGRAPH OF ONE (1) SQUARE/ FOR EACH ENTRY.  You may enter up to five (5) designs in the contest. (If you are submitting more than one design, upload a separate photo for each design.) Each upload must include:
1.) Your community user name
2.) The title of your entry
3.) One (1) good photograph per entry. It is critical that your photograph be the best quality possible, don't skimp here. You are judged solely upon your photograph. Make sure the entire project is clearly visible. The photograph must be a JPEG file sized at approximately 640x480 at 72 dpi, and the file size must not be more than 500KB each. For best results, photograph your piece(s) against a white/light background without props. Remember, finalists will be selected and winners will be chosen based on these photographs—it is to your advantage to submit the best possible images of your submission(s).

By submitting the photograph(s) to, you are giving your assurance that the photograph(s) are available for use by Interweave Press for all of the purposes described in these contest rules. If someone other than you has taken the photograph(s) or controls the rights to the photograph(s), you are responsible for clearing these rights before submitting the photograph(s) to

Twenty (20) to thirty (30) finalists will be selected by the judges, who will be editors of Interweave Crochet magazine chosen by Interweave Press.  The entries submitted by the finalists will be posted at the for online voting by community members according to their personal preferences.  The ten (10) finalists receiving the most votes during the voting period will be designated as winners.

Prizes for each winning entry consist of an Interweave Crochet magazine contract for the winning design with compensation of $100, and inclusion of said design in either the Winter 2010 or Spring 2011 issue of Interweave Crochet magazine as well as all other publications, marketing, and publicity associated with the Chain Reaction Afghan Project. Winning designs and all rights to these designs will be owned by Interweave Crochet magazine and Interweave Press, LLC.

Announcement of all finalists will be posted at by September 15, 2010. Winners will have until 5:00 p.m. MST on September 27, 2010, to submit their actual project, plus a detailed materials list, tools list, instructions, and resources list, to Interweave Crochet magazine, 201 E Fourth St, Loveland, CO 80537.  It is the responsibility of all entrants to monitor the site and comply with the submission deadline.

Announcement of winning entries will be posted at after the voting has been tabulated and eligibility of the winning entrants has been confirmed.

All winners will be selected, and all prizes will be awarded to winning entrants by December 31, 2011.


Entrants relinquish the copyright in all entry materials subject to the rights granted to Interweave Press under these contest rules and in the Interweave Crochet magazine contract. Entry materials will not be returned to entrants and Interweave Press shall have no responsibility or liability for loss or damage to entry materials.

Interweave Press disclaims any responsibility or liability due to the non-receipt of entries and/or any TK owing to circumstances beyond its control, including but not limited to late delivery or non-delivery due to defects in the operation of the Internet and/or the hardware and software used by the entrant, the voters, or by Interweave Press.

Finalists will be chosen for their originality, creativity, and quality by judges selected by Interweave Press from the editorial staff of Interweave Crochet magazine. Interweave reserves the rights for all decisions of the judges made in their sole and absolute discretion will be final.

Ten (10) winners will be chosen on the basis of votes for each entry as received on, during the voting period. Voting on finalists will be according to the personal preference of community members who choose to vote. Interweave Press cannot control, and disclaims any responsibility or liability, for online voting and is responsible only for using its best efforts to collect and count the votes actually received.

Entrants must satisfy all eligibility requirements before finalists and winners are selected, winning entries are published, and/or the contracts and prizes are awarded. If an entry is selected as a finalist or as a winner by the voting conducted at the CrochetMe.comwebsite, but the entrant is not eligible, and/or if the entry does not conform to the contest rules, and/or if the entrant declines to sign the Interweave Crochet magazine contract or other eligibility agreements presented by Interweave Press, then the entrant and the entry will be disqualified and the next-ranked finalist will be selected as a winner.

Winners will be announced on  Entrants are responsible for monitoring the site to determine if they have been selected as finalists and to read any other announcements that may be posted.

All personal information collected by Interweave Press from entrants will be kept in confidence and used for purposes of judging only except that the name, likeness, and city of residence of finalists and winners may be announced, advertised, promoted, and publicized by Interweave Press.

By entering the Chain Reaction Afghan Project, each entrant is granting to Interweave Press the perpetual, exclusive, and royalty-free right to (a) use the photographs and other entry materials submitted by the entrant without photo credit(s) for the photographer(s) who took the photographs, (b) photograph and reproduce the entry in the various print and electronic publications of Interweave Press and the advertising, publicity, promotional and marketing materials of Interweave Press in any and all media, and (c) use the name, image, likeness, and biographical data of the finalists and winners in connection with all of the foregoing uses.

By entering the Chain Reaction Afghan Project, entrant is assuring Interweave Press that entrant possesses the right to submit all entry materials for use by Interweave Press as described in these contest rules without the consent or approval of any third party, and Interweave Press is entitled on rely on entrant’s right to do so.

As a condition of eligibility, the winning entrants may be required to sign and return an agreement in a form satisfactory to Interweave Press by which each entrant formally consents to the use of his or her entry, photograph, name, image, likeness, and biographical data, and pattern as described above. Such eligibility agreements shall be in addition to the Interweave Crochet magazine contract. If requested to do so, the failure to sign and return the form will disqualify the entrant.

Entrants are solely responsible for payment of taxes that may be imposed by reason of the prizes awarded to them.

The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
