I found this pattern on Etsy. I purchased the Newsboy Cap from this seller and LOVE it. I want this bucket hat pattern next. Hope this helps! If I find more, I'll post it!

The book "Happy Hooker" has a pattern for a cowboy hat that has intrigued me. That's another kind of wide brim. I think a prolific crochet designer named Dot had a hat inspired by early Clint Eastwood movies with a broad brim and short crown.

I googled for Dot Matthews and didn't find her main site. She was very ill several years ago, and hadn't posted new patterns since 2006. I did find a blog with a number of patterns including one called Sassy A, a cute brimmed hat, about a third of the way down on this page, http://patternsbydot.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html

I think Dot designed the "Happy Hooker" hat as well.

Oh, GIDDYUP GO, a cowboy style is about half-way down that page.

And I found the EASTWOODLY HAT, a little more than half-way down the page.

She designed so many crocheted items - hats, ponchos, baby things, lacy things, solid things, and then gave her patterns away. I'll have to make one of her designs in her honor. I hope the some of the readers here do, too.
