Hi people, my wife has started trying to learn to crochet but is having a little trouble... I am hoping that the wise people here know all so I figured it's worth a try.

She's been trying to learn from a youtube video which can be found here.

The problem is that the video ends up with a square / rectangle .... her one always comes out as a round piece.

Does anyone have idea what she could be doing wrong.

Thanks guys

Tell your wife we are very happy to have her joining us! She might enjoy some of the free eBooks we have for download. They include some easy beginner pattens.

As to why her squares are remaining circles, it is common to begin crochet squares as circles. At some point in the creation, the circle transforms into a square by working multiple stitches into a single stitch (an increase) in four locations (where the square's corners will be). On rounds after that, you will continue to increase the number of stitches in the corners to continue the square shape. Maybe this blog will help you visualize it.

Best wishes,
