I make most of my afghans using Caron Simply Soft 4-ply worsted weight yarn. I've also made shawls, sofa pillows, ponchos, scarves and bench cushion covers from it.

Go to www.redheart.com or www.caron.com or www.lionbrand.com or www.bernat.com and you can pick patterns based on the weight of the yarn out of their free patterns lists.

You should find LOTS of ideas there. Good luck.

I have busted my worsted stash by making rugs.  Depending on the strand thickness, I use two or three strands held together.  I did one in greens/yellows and another in all shades of blues.  Throw rugs work up fast and can use from short lengths to full skeins.
