The wild textures and colors that novelty yarns offer are almost always hard to resist, however what to do with them once they are collecting dust and taking up precious space in your stash? There is hope for these bon-bons of the fiber world. Fairy Bracelets! A simple crochet-free, totally kid-friendly way to use up crazy, zany, too-hard-to-see-the-stitches novelty yarns. All you need are sharp scissors, ouchless pony tail holders ( I like to use Goody brand), and of course all of your crazy yarns. Using the scissors, cut your novlety yarns into 8-9 inch pieces (for a full looking Fairy Bracelet, I used about 18 pieces of novelty yarn) and then simply double knot the yarn onto the pony tail holder. I like my yarn to go all the way around the pony tail holder for a bracelet but if you wanted to use this in your hair, then I would suggest using a smaller number of pieces and keeping the yarn to 1/4 or 1/3 of the pony tail holder (to avoid tangling in your hair.) Extra ribbon, beads, and sequins are also fun materials for these. Kids, especially girls around age 9, really dig wearing these in their hair, on their wrists, and yes, even on their ankles. Happy Crafting!
