Phew! If you've been with us from the beginning in March, you've seen many changes in Crochet me. First we were an idea, conceived in frustration at not finding many modern or funky patterns to crochet. Then people started responding and contributing, and we became a source of information. Then we became a meeting place. And now, in addition to all of that, we're a real, live magazine. (Isn't it cool that when a web page is uploaded it's said to "go live?")
Welcome to our first issue! Now that we're in regular, bi-monthly publication, we're hoping this will be our smallest issue ever. Since we rely on you creative crocheters to submit your ideas and projects, we're counting on the grassroots word-of-mouth that's gotten us this far to spread the joy even farther. As more and more people learn about us, we're hoping we'll be buried in submissions. Here's more about what we have in store for you as we march on in this crochet revolution:
We welcome Annette Petavy to our staff as a columnist. You'll hear from her in every issue, and she'll inspire you to try new things and to grow as a crocheter. We have articles! From learning new techniques to experimenting on our own; from embracing knitters to the Yarn Store Dream. And, of course, we have patterns! From objects to carry your stuff, to hats to keep you warm, to a funky... doily?
You'll notice an ad at the top of this page. In order to grow, we need to pay for a lot of things. And we are committed to keeping the content of this magazine free. So, just like a print magazine, we will attempt to defray our growing costs by becoming ad-supported. In time, we aim to be able to pay writers and designers, too. We assure you that all ads that appear in Crochet me will be from businesses related to our craft. They will not blink. They will not make noise. And if you click them, we think you'll find some things that will make your day. This issue's sponsor is Birkeland Bros. Wool, which is where I learned how to crochet. The store was established in 1939, and is now home to a thriving Stitch & *** group where you'll generally find me on Monday nights. Crochet me will be your best friend if you help to support our efforts by checking out our sponsor's ads. We couldn't be here without them.
I am exhausted from the excitement I've been feeling about this first issue. I hope you love it, and I hope you'll help us grow as a force that's bringing crochet into the modern era.
Enjoy!
