Can anyone help me with Rebecca Velasquez's Mushroom pattern - you can see it at crochetme.com/shroom I have tried and tried but get lost at about Round 8. (See my request for help in the comments. No one responded...)

Hoping to finish one of these for the holidays for my daughter....

I'm a beginner but get along pretty well on other patterns. Thanks. WildRose

Hi WildRose,

Here's how I read it -

You make it upside-down. Rounds 1-7 form the lid on the mushroom. I think you knew that.

On round 7 it says, "Rnd 7: Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 7 sc, **ch 5**, sc in same sp as last sc, sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in last sc (37 sc)" The ch 5 with the asterisks around it is the fastening loop.

Round 8 begins the bowl on the mushroom. The 7 single crochets are the hinge for the lid. The 27 chains are the foundation chain for the rim of the bowl. The chain is joined into a loop by the sc into the first stitch of the hinge. Add 7 plus 27 to get 34 stitches, so it's a little smaller around than the lid (37 sts) and the lid will fit/overlap the bowl.

Round 9 you sc around, in the hinge and in the rim's foundation chain. Round 10 you go back to increasing.

I hope that's halfway clear. We're struggling with the one picture or the 1000 words!

Good luck. It is a very cute pattern.

I had a bit of trouble with this patter as well.  I lose it at about row 8 and 9.  You stated, "the chain is joined onto a loop by the sc into the first stich of the hinge for the lid."  Is the "hinge" the 7 sc's before the 27 chains?  At what row does the lid end?

Row 9 says this:

Rnd 9: Sc in each of next 6 sc, sc in each ch around (34 sc)....This is was I understand from that....I joined the 27 chains by a sc in the base of the 27 chains.  I then continued to sc 6 in the lid, however when it says to sc in each chain, my hook is 6 sc's away from the chain and seems awkward when I try to sc in the chain.

So...do I need to sc the first 6 chains INTO the 6 sc in row 9 so they are connected?  Im so confused but I love this pattern, I want to make dozens.  I am new to this site so I don't even know if anyone will read this, or if I'm posting it in the right place.  I just wanna make this cute little shroom :)

I read this as that you chain 27 and then join into the first of the 7 "hinge" sc, rather than at the base of the 27 chains.  Continue across the remaining 6 "hinge" sc  and then sc into the remaining 27 chains of the round, which will reach the required 34 stitches.  Everything from there continues in the round.
