waffle weave stitch

I was wondering if Crochet Me or one of the members would post a picture tutorial on the waffle weave stitch. I am having a hard time understanding the instructions that I have. They said it was a no brainer stitch. I guess i know where that leaves me.

I have been trying to learn this stitch, a project for Momma for Christmas.

I have a book called learn to do waffle weave by Nancy Nehring, it is a crochet stitch that forma a thick stretchy, interlocking double layer of fabric for warmth. The layers produce a dimpled surface that looks like a waffle iron imprint.

The dimples trap air into little pocket which creates a fabric that is very warm. It is the air pockets, not the tightness, thickness or weight of the yarn/crochet, that contribute to the armth.{_This descriptions if from the book_] how the author describes it.

I just cannot seem to understand the instructions for some reason. There is something I am missing.

I cannot seem to find anymore information or tutortials on this. Sometimes if this are explained in a different way and shown it sinks in.

I went to your photo with the basketweave - it is beautiful. What a lovely stitch to learn, yes I would like a picture tutorial also. I would like to learn that.

Momma would enjoy something made from that stitch also. She is 86 and I try to do different things that she enjoys.

hmmm, that does not sound like basketweave to me. In fact, by the description, I don't really know what it is.

I'll still make a basketweave/post stitch/cable tip tutorial though as long as I can wrangle the boyfriend or one of the dogs to take photos.

Okay, after getting confused myself, I learned that there's a waffle weave stitch and a waffle weave technique just to make us all crazy. The waffle weave stitch is the basketweave stitch, which is full of my favorite front and back post stitches (front more than back). The waffle weave technique sounds interesting, but I don't have Nancy Nehring's book to help us understand it. So, there's this description I found on CrochetwithDee.com:

"The Waffle Weave technique...is a technique that sort of combines the padded stitch with the cable stitch methodologies. Together, it rolls a previously made row tightly into the next until a dimpled fabric is created. The method involves picking up a bottom loop in a previously made row while also picking up a loop in the top row at the same time with the simple single crochet stitch...."

If that is in fact what you are looking for, I'll try my hand at it tonight or over the weekend, but there are no guarantees that all my years of crocheting will answer your questions as I've never been good with following directions when crocheting.

Momma has never had anything in either of these stitches.

By Christmas she will.

She is looking forward to her gifts.

Bubbo is gong to post online the basketweave stitch tutorial, so that I may do some of that for Momma.
