I want to build the sweater pictured on the cover of the new Crochet Me Book. The instructions say to alternate between front and back post half double crochet and the detailed instructions say to hdc-flo in each hdc-flo, hdc-blo in each hdc-blo across. Does this mean I alternate each stitch or each row? Also, when alternating, are the front and back loops consistent with the right and wrong side or just with whatever side is facing you at the moment?
Try making small swatches, one for each of your best guesses, and see which looks right or most like the photo.
I don't have the book so can't interpret the instructions, sorry.
when I went to the next row I would alternate stitches so that in the stitch below, where I did the hdc-flo I would do an hdc-flo and same for the hdc-blo. I think this would make a lovely granular or seedy pattern. very tactile.
also, front loops and back loops refer to the side that is actually facing you at the moment. so, if you make a hdc-flo onto a stitch that was a hdc-flo in the row below, it will actually be kind of opposite. Does that make sense?
Okay, I hope this helps. I'm sometimes not so good with explaining things.
Hardcore? Hardcore is for babies. I'm HOOKCORE!
Bubbo is absolutely right. The pattern stitch is alternating hdc-flo and hdc-blo in ea row. Hope it works out for you!

On the same sweater
join yarn to opposite end with same hook in top of tch???
Am I then adding more rows to the back again?
The book recommended going here for help.
The instructions mean to join new yarn in the top of the tch at the other end of the row you're working on. This allows you to add stitches to each end of the row on the same row, instead of over two rows. So then you insert your hook back into the first set of chains you made and proceed across that row and the second set of chains you made. Does that make sense?

yes, thanks. I think it would have made more sense to indicate in some way that the join was with a new thread.

Good luck! I've been working a week and a half and just got through the top portion! It's a fun pattern though!
