Hi everyone,

I have yet to find synthetic yarn in Oz that is anything but scratchy, so I'm going to do the unheard of and buy yarn from the US to make my niece a round ripple. I'm going to buy either Lion Vanna's Choice or Caron Simply Soft and use two strands so that it works up bigger and cuddlier. At any rate, I'm wondering: roughly how many balls would you suggest I buy? Now... I KNOW this can only be a guesstimate, but I've never worked with yarn from the US before, and seeing as our yarn gauges are different, and also that none of the adult-size round ripple patterns have an estimate of how much yarn they'll need, I need at least a rough idea. I'll buy extra, but a good working minimum would be handy.

Thanks in advance, lovely ones!

Lion Brand has a lot of free patterns. Maybe you could find out how many skeins are needed for an afghan of approximately the same area as your round ripple.

CoatsandClark.com and Berroco.com are also good sites for free patterns.
