round 1 make a magic ring chain 1 and work sc,hdc,dc in loop placing open stitch on a stitch marker chain 1 and work sc,hdc,dc in 1st loop this is what stumps me can anyone help me thanks in advance
What is the name of the pattern? Is it one you could post the link for or is it from a printed source? Which part are you confused about - what to do after you put the stitch on the stitch marker? Need more info!
It sounds like the magic ring is the loop, after you have done the first set of stitches into this loop, place the st that is on your hook onto the stitch marker then ch 1, and continue the next lot of stitches in the same loop as before.
Hi YarnAddiction,
Your question sounds vaguely familiar to me as the beginning of the Swirl Wrap. If that is the case, the magic loop is a slip knot, and the live stitch needs to be put on a stitch marker because you are going to start with the second color and need to keep that last stitch live for the next time you pick up that color.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.
Best regards,

WHAT IS A MAGIC RING? I NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE.FROM KJENS 1234
I'll try to explain the magic ring/loop. In order to attach yarn to your hook you use a slip knot and you pull the slip knot snug against the hook before starting to chain. You then usually begin your beginning chain. For the magic ring, don't pull the slip knot snug against the hook because the loop on the bottom of the knot (not the loop on the hook) is where you will begin crocheting your first round of stitches. The loop takes the place of joined chain stitches that you crochet into to make a ring. After you have made your first round, you can then pull the yarn tail and tighten up the center so that you don't end up with a hole in the center of your piece. Hope I didn't confuse anybody.
