This may not be something you can help me with, but I'm a little self-conscious of how fast I crochet. I've been crocheting for a fair amount of time but I'm still too young to be that experienced (I'm only thirteen) and I'm extremely slow, so slow that in fact I can't even crochet a scarf without becoming frustrated. I know speed comes with experience but I'd be reassured if anyone could tell me a general idea of how fast they are. This sounds a little weird, but perhaps how long it takes you to crochet a scarf, or tote or anything?

Hi Slomokitty. I don't think you should worry about your speed. It will pick up as you gain the physical memory you need to be able to just hook without thinking about it. Try doing some openwork stuff with a big hook and big yarn. Try out the Alternating windowpane scarf on this site, or Zen and the art of stash diving scarf. You can find both of them on the "patterns" page of this site under "scarves". Good luck and happy hookin'!

I have been crocheting of and on for about three years and I am slow also. But you know it is ok. This isn't a race and it is suppose to be fun. Don't stress! I have about 8 projects that haven't been finished because I feel it is taking to long. Now I work on small stuff like bags and hats. I love to make hats because they don't take that long and you get a real since of accomplishment when your done. I don't do anything bigger than a baby blanket and the last one took me 6 months. Don't sweat it!
