Hi! I ordered about 1400yds of recycled sari silk and now am staring at it wondering what to do. I had in mind a long, fitted cardigan with straight sleeves - I think I'm too much of a beginner to design my own, but can't seem to find a pattern. Any advice? Has anyone used this yarn? It looks like it'll drape beautifully... but being so "sheddy" it'll be nasty to rip out any mistakes. So, I guess I'm looking for a pattern, or advice on how to design one's own pattern. thanks!
Tatyana
there is a pattern i know of in the chicks with sticks guide to crochet that uses sari silk. they make a purse. it looks very cool and it is really simple-- i did it in another type of yarn but wished i had some of the sari silk!
I did a purse similar to the chicks with sticks one , I couldn't afford the book and my local library didn't have it. It turned out awesome. Sadly I see a lot of finished objects out there that just look messy. No insult meant to any crocheter out there. I think the key is not to unravel it at all costs when working with it. The yarn does come in different weights, ie worsted and fingering. I have also seen some FO's with a combo of sari silk and bamboo or cotton.
Thanks for the tips - I actually just bit the bullet and made up a pattern for a long fitted cardigan. It's exquisite - but a heads up to anyone else using this yarn, it's extremely heavy! I used dc for the whole thing so it'd go faster - but wish I'd sc so the stitches wouldn't have stretched so much! It got a good 4 inches longer the first time I wore it - and much of my careful side shaping was wasted, as the waist ends up near my hips now! But it is definitely an original work of art!
