A good friend of mine wears bowties quite often, and I'd like to make a few of them to give as Christmas presents (I don't have time to go with the initial idea of crocheted hotpants - maybe his birthday). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

a really simple way to make bowties is to crochet a narrow rectangle e.g. 4cm x 14cm (but the size is up to you)...then nip in the centre of the rectangle...you can do this with a ribbon, or beads, or a thin strip of crochet, even a brooch will do it...then attach 1cm-wide elastic starting & finishing at nipped-in centre on wrong side. you can use fancy yarns, textures, or colour patterns. if you want really neat edges, double the measurement (so in the example i gave it would be 8cm x 28cm) turn inside out & sew up until there's just enough wiggle room to turn right side out, neaten edges & there you go. i hope this helps.
Hi, I guess I'm a year too late for this post... but for others that are interested I made a stop motion video of a crochet bowtie. The crochet bowtie was made by my grandmother and the way she made it looked really simple. If your interested check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbJXORjbar4

I know it is a bit late but still, try doing this one. It's kind of easy to follow. Hope you like it!
