Hi, I am a beginning crocheter and I'm obviously not understanding the instructions in the pattern I'm working. I hope someone would be kind enough to set me straight.

I'm making a hat in the round and joining the ends of the row. The instructions say to join with slip knot, ch 1 and then 'sc in the same st.' I know I'm not doing this correctly because my stitch count is always off.

I've tried what I thought was 'sc in the same st' but found my hat started to develop a hump where I joined the row ends and it didn't look to me like the rows were lining up.

Can someone tell me what this instruction means exactly or direct me to a photo-tutorial (visual learner, here!) because my hat is growing exponentially. :-)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Hi! Go to http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Crochet/Howtos/Crochet+Made+Easy+-+video+lessons.htm

I found these tutorials early this year on coatsandclark.com to pass on to my sister as I live in Ohio and she lives part-time in Florida and thus I am not always available to physically help with her questions. I think the instructions are pretty good. This tutorial is also on cd which I also bought for my sister. Lesson 12 shows how to join in round; be advised even though they show double crochet used, the method is same no matter what stitch you use.

Also, visit http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/instruction_directory.php you will see two columns page down and in left hand column find Crocheting in Rounds, she shows a good pictoral. Hope these help.
