I am making a hat that is the shape of a pacman ghost. So far the hat has turned out nicely, however... I'm stuffed trying to get the eyes right. They are a simple cross design.. The length is perfect at 6 stitches with a #5 hook. My problem is that I am very new at this and I cant figure out how to add the stitches to the sides. I start with 6 long 3sc wide rectangle and then??? Everytime I try I can never get the sides to be even. I pull the yarn loop through the 3rd stitch and do my best to match it to the other side but i'll be buggered I can get it right. The shape should be equal to a 6x6 box or close to it..

Thanks for all your advice in advance

Happy Holidays

You could always add a stitch if you really need to to make it even. To add a stitch just do an extra stitch in any of the original stitches of the the prior row. You also might want to add a chain at each turn.

Is it coming out too small each row or too long? If too short than the above might help too long you could always crochet two stitches together.

Let me know if this helps in anyway. Good luck!
