I need some ideas/patterns for this project. My sister-in-law is due to have a baby around 4th of July. I want to try out my new sewing machine out, but want to crochet her a baby blanket too. My idea so far is to quilt the center using felt fabric, then crochet around it using Bernat Felting Wool. Has anyone ever tried this or something like this before?

I've used a couple of different wools for felting; not that one specifically, though. Have you felted before? I find it a messy process - lots of lint-picking to do after it's washed and rubbed. My caution in using it for a baby blanket is that it'll be tough to wash - it wants to continue to felt every time unless it's handwashed, which isn't always practical for a baby blanket. Plus, it'll shed gobs of wool fibres if chewed or pulled on - maybe not best for a baby. Maybe a chenille or other super soft chunky yarn would be better.

It sure would be warm and cozy, though! And sounds beautiful!
