I'm making a summery tank top using a shell stitch, designed to be wider at the bottom (this is where I've started) and becoming slightly more narrow as it goes up to create a fitted waistline. my problem is that i cant figure out how i can do this. Does anyone know how to decrease a shell stitch please?

There are a few easy way to decrease a shell st. The first and easiest is to change hook sizes. You could also work fewer stitches in the shells where you decrease. Also, if you are working a sc or ch row between shells, try decreasing your number of stitches in this row. Good luck!
