hey!

just starting to crochet the baby doll dress from the crochet me book, and working on the front panel piece, which says

row 1:

chain 32 with the larger hook and then sc in second chain from hook and in each across,

turn row 2:

ch 1, sc-blo in each stitch across, turn. rep row 2 until your work measures 3 and half inches.

the problem is when I start to crochet the sc-blo my piece keeps shrinking! it's decreasing by one stitch row by row and I don't know why, I'm following the pattern as it says and I don't forget to ch 1 at the beginning of each row, is the pattern meant to do this? as it does not say so and from the diagram, I think I'm meant to be crocheting a square panel.

any ideas please?

thanks!

mad for crochet!

Try counting the stitches as you go with each row, you must be missing a stitch somewhere - those last stitches in the row can be sneaky. If the count is right, then maybe you are crocheting tighter as you go, which would make it smaller.

hey, thanks for the advice, I'll give it another go and see what happens, was quite tired when I was crocheting last night, there is a good chance the error is on my part!

When you get to the last sc-blo, you still have one more stitch to find and sc into; it's your ch that you put on to begin that row. Remember the ch at each row (begining) is counted as your first stitch. So as you finish, you must make one more sc into this, then ch 1, turn and begin the next row. Sometimes the directions don't make this real clear, but I hope this will help you get real straight rows.
