I hopt this works. I have tried three times to reply to the post asking for help about the pillowghan. I don't think this website is compatible with my software. No amount of clicking on the compatiblity button works, it still looks like a torn sheet of paper and I have trouble posting. :o(
Anyway, I have been making pillowghans for years. I prefer to make mine all one piece, but have seen plenty made from squares. Red Heart had a book out once called Pack-A-Ghans. They were squre patterns. Here is a site with detailed descriptions and a diagram to give you an idea for making your own. http://www.stephthornton.co.uk/knitting/bond/list/pillogan.htm
Don't be intimidated that it is on a machine knitting site. This isn't a "pattern" but a "diagram" that crocheters, knitters, and sewers, can all follow to make one.
If you roll up your afghan and sew straps on it, then you have a bed roll that kids find fun to take on over night trips.
