Has anyone made this? No matter what size hook I use, the gauge is so large that I'm ready to give up.

HELP!

I have the magazine but I haven't tried making it. I guess my first question would be are you using the yarn they used? If you are, then I would suggest keep going done hook sizes until it works. It has to sooner or later. Even if you end up using a 3.00mm hook. It doesn't matter as long as the test swatch is coming out the same as theirs so don't be daunted by numbers on hooks.

If you are using a different yarn have you made sure it is the equivalent size of the Moda Dea Bamboo Wool they have used in the pattern? If you are not using the Moda Dea wool, have you used the WPI to find out if what you are using is the same gauge or done a test swatch to make sure your wool is equivalent to theirs? Those are the first things I would look at. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Sorry. First comment should read "Keep going DOWN hook sizes (not DONE hook sizes). Sorry. I hope I didn't confuse you.

I did all of the things you suggested and still no luck.

I went to Ravelry.com this morning and checked out the Lacy Cropped Cardi pattern. Lo and behold, there was a note from the designer saying that the gauge had a typo in it.

So maybe this will be a good lesson for me. It's so easy to use the web to check out patterns before starting a project. I'm going to do this before I even pick up a crochet hook!

Thanks for your advice, Michele

You said it! When in doubt, check back for pattern corrections! It certainly didn't make sense that you couldn't make the gauge work! Kudos to you for having the sense to check and see if there were any pattern corrections! What was the typo? And make sure you post a picture of the finished product. I'd love to see it! Take care!
