I don't know where this urge came from, but around two weeks ago I absolutely needed to crochet a hooded poncho. I've never written a pattern in my life and I figured that this wasn't the time to start, so I scoured the Internet for at least ONE decent pattern (nothing too busy and nothing too "mature"), and all I found were baby and kid patterns - two age groups that I no longer belong in. Naturally, I decided to just find a regular poncho pattern and add a hood! Genius idea, I know.
Anyway, I made the poncho just fine, but I have been having nothing but trouble with the hood. I've consulted a few sources about hood-making methods, but I haven't quite found anything that's right for this particular poncho. So I'd like to ask my fellow crocheters here: How do you all make your hoods? I'm open to all suggestions/methods/etc.
Also, I should mention that my head is kinda big and my hair also takes up space. Therefore, I'm looking for a roomy hood. There are approximately 40 dc stitches around the back edge of the poncho, so this is what I'm working with. I guess I should also mention that I'm using Bernat Soft Bouclé. Someone here may find that last bit of info to be relevant.
Since I'm still typing, I would like to take this moment to say hi to everyone here; I'm kind of a brand new member, however, I'm a longtime pattern reader and picture-browser :D
mad for crochet!
One really simple way to make a hood is to make a large rectangle and attach one of the short ends to the neck opening and fold the other short end in half and seam it together. Presto- hood!
