I am about to embark on crocheting a rather large ripple blanket, and would prefer to use the double crochet foundation row (dcfr) rather than the chain foundation row. I've used the dcfr in projects before, but only when the first row was straight (no increases/ decreases). Has anyone used the dcfr when the first row did include increases or decreases? Or, in the case of a ripple blanket, would you use a single crochet foundation row, then work row one (with the ripples) on top of it? I'm not sure how it would work. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I am a relatively new crocheter but have started a ripple blanket with a dcfr without any decreases or increases. I just can't work from a chain. It pulls a little and probably would be better if the first row hadd the decreases/increases. But I think it is working out as I work up the blanket.
