I'm a fairly new to crochet--I've only ever made scarves--and now I'm having trouble with a hat pattern. For example, when the instructions say:

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around or

Rnd 3: [Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc]9 times--36 sc

I know that sc means single chain, but thats about all I've got.

I would appreciate any help I can get!

Let me try to help:

Round 2: you do 2 single-crochet in each single-crochet stitch that you had in Round 1

Round 3: Do [1 single-crochet in each of the first two stitches, do 2 single-crochet in the next stitch]; you will do the instructions within these brackets [ ] a total of 9 times. You should end up with a total of 36 stitches for Round 3.

Hope this helps.
