Hello Ladies :)

Hello Ladies,

I am a newbie :) Thought that I'd post here to give my warm hello and introduce myself. I'm Jessie a.k.a. Krafty Kitty, married with 4 children. For several years I've been wanting to learn how to crochet and knit..but everytime I sat down to learn..from a book, I'm all thumbs and can't figure out how to do neither. I bought a how to crochet kit years ago and never learned.

Just recently I bought another how to crochet kit and also a how to knit kit too. I think that the only way I'll be able to learn is by having someone sit right beside me, lol!I have talked with a few people and some say that learning to crochet is alot easier compared to learning to knit..the reason, because you only have to use one hand to crochet and 2 hands to knit. I want to learn both, heheh ;)

I have found a couple of websites that have posted "How-to-Knit videos" but I haven't found any videos on "How-to-Crochet" except for some on You-Tube..but they all are too fast and blurry :(

Over the past 2 months, I have really got on this kick of downloading & collecting knit and crochet patterns, along with craft patterns. I guess it's the whole Christmas thing, lol! :D

If you any of you sweet ladies know of any How-to- videos for Crochet, please let me know..as I desperately want to learn.. Also...I found the crocheted frolicking slipper on this site, posted by the Admin, I beleive. Can anyone tell me what substitute yarn I can use in place of whats listed? Thank you for all of your comments in advance :)

Hang in there, it WILL come to you. I think learning from a real, live instructor would be best for you. Do you know of an LYS that offers classes? I assume you have struck out on finding friends and relatives who can show you.

Our hostess, Kim Werker, just posted the most amazing link on her blog, KnitMap, that lists all your local yarn stores. http://www.knitmap.com/ Maybe you can find a shop with lessons.

I think there are some good crochet videos, too, but I don't know where, off hand.

I had the luck of having my mom teach me the basics - but the one thing that REALLY helped me was the Visually Teach Yourself Crocheting book- it's FANTASTIC and actually makes sense!

They've been my very good friends this week as I've no one to teach me as well and I started a week ago. :) Good Luck!

I learned most of my crochet on line through various web sites. Annie's Attic has an excellent list of all the basic and some less common stitches with written explanations, pictures and a short video of exactly how to do them. I use this site A LOT even with stitches I've used before but forgot exactly how to do it. Good luck!

I've donated my body to motherhood

My mom and MIL both tried to teach me, but I finally got it from the "I Can't Believe I'm Crocheting" DVD by Melissa Leapman. It starts with how to hold your yarn and hook and she goes at a pace that you can keep up with. I have already loaned it out to a few other ladies in my Needlers group at church and they all immediately started crocheting too. I also love that you can pause, rewind, etc till you really get it. It's a perfect learning tool.
