Hello :) I'm Elaine and live in Shropshire, UK in the shadow of the Wrekin, a hill with a legend of a giant attached to it.
I taught myself to crochet from a book about three years ago now (or nearly three years) after being inspired by a friend - I think that it's possible to crochet with the hook bit on a Swiss Army Penknife (still need to test out that theory!!)and I've yet to make a Barbie Druid Toilet Roll Cover!!
I make all sorts of things and class myself as an enthusiastic amateur. I like the Anticraft website and have made some projects from there. I like the work of Erssie Major and a lady who goes by the name of Woolly Wormhead. My crochet is not hugely fancy and I've yet to do any major design work though I've figured out how to make oak leaves (more of that another time)
I also work 25 hours a week as an administrator, am doing an Open University degree and have a husband and son to look after in between crochetting and I'm slightly (ahem!) addicted :)
Look forward to meeting you all :)

Elaine,
Good to see you here. As I was reading your intro, I thought you were a crocheter who needs to know about Anticraft, and you do! Now I must go find Erssie Major and Woolly Wormhead.

Hi Elaine! Nice to see some more UK crocheters!
Thanks for the welcomes :) Now to get a Flickr account and add some pictures! I look forward to having a good mooch around here. The UK does sadly seem to be a bit of a crochet desert with regards to forums, etc
