Hi there,
I am new to the forums here and the website. I am also relatively new to crocheting.
It all started because I saw these cute little crocheted flowers and I thought, 'I could do that...'. Mother #in#law sat down and taught me how to do the basics and I bought a great book 'The Happy Hooker' and I am starting to get there.
I have crocheted a lovely scarf for a friends birthday and am in the middle of making my little angel a blanket, which I have to sayis taking longer and using more wool than I had imagined!!!
And yes, I have made a start on the flowers, just the one mind!!
Anyway, pleased to meet you all.

About the addiction, I believe it can be, but it is a healthy one!! mad for crochet!
mad for crochet!
Glad to hear it is a healthy one!!!!! At least there is a purpose!!!!
it is definitely addicting. especially when you go look for that special yarn (even though you have tons in that closet your husband never goes into) and of course buy more than you need cuz you don't want to have to go find it again when you run out early. and of course, DO NOT GO ON EBAY. talk about addiction. you can find the most wonderful out of print patterns and yarns no longer made. have fun!!
OMG
The wool for the blanket that I am making is from ebay, it is perfect and a joy to work with.
I would never have found it without eBay. I think I must be their most valued customer, judging by the amount of wool I keep having to reorder!!!
And it is true, slowly, by slowy i am accumulating a stash of wool, some that I pick up in charity shops, some 'odds and ends' given to me by freinds and family and of course those balls of ' I just must have stuff to try out, because it is perfect'!!!!
Thank you cliving, I will now looking more closely at ebay for patterns ect.....
Gwen.
It def is an addiction. I just spent $80 at lionbrand.com for two patterns and materials. And i am so anxious for it to arrive I can't think straight.
I wish i could make clothing tho. Only good at flat stuff, like scarves and blankets.
Well, to date I have made a scarf, a flower hairband and I am working on a blanket.
It is funny I sent an emial to my friend, containing a link to a website selling really cool wool. We laughed about it later, I never thought 10 years ago, when we at school and at the stage of making those lists, 'What will we be doing in 10 years time', that I would be getting excited about 'cool wool'!!!!
I really want to be able to do the more complicated stuff, I too would love to be able to do clothing.
I thought I was the only one who made only straight stuff. Yup, I'd like to make clothing too but am scared. Isn't that silly? Crocheting is an addiction. Support groups in my town aren't available. LOL So I have to soldier on, alone. I betcha if there were support groups for addicted crocheters there'd be chocolate there. Am I right ladies? Ha.
I love that Book and also have the Stitch N' *** knitting books by the same gal! If you ever get the itch to try knitting I would suggest those, I learned how from the first one. Anyway good luck on those flowers!

I'd have to say "Yes" to the addiction question! :)
2 weeks ago I bought 4 new crochet books. Not sure when I'll have time to start the all patterns I've decided to try, have 2 projects to complete, and am now learning thread crochet.
As others have already said, crochet is not exactly hazardous to health but it does keep my bottom on the couch a bit too much!
