Ok...so I'm thinking about starting my first doilie...My question is: How to start & where to start? Does anyone know where to find an easy beginner doilie?

I like crochet but don't do an awful lot. I can just about muddle my way through a pattern but havn't made anything for a few years now. Have started doodling with yarn and hook and fancy doing some freeform stuff to get my hand in before I embark on anything too involved.Have also got to get my head around the difference between English and American instructions.I think I might start making some flowery brooches - easy and quick and useful as pressies for friends

flower broaches sound lovely. How about making some wine bottle cosies. They would make great pressie's with a bottle of wine inside. You could also do this fairly free form
