Hello! I'm Italian from Rome, I'm 23, I was searching for crochet resources on the web and found this community!

I'm trying to learn to crochet but I'm left handed, so it's a problem to understand pictures! In addition I'm looking for a book with EVERYTHING I need to know, but also with instructions for lefties.

What I really want to do is make amigurumis!

I was thinking about these books:

"The Crochet Answer Book: Solutions to Every Problem You'll Ever Face, Answers to Every Question You'll Ever Ask" - Edie Eckman

or

"Crochet VISUAL Quick Tips (Teach Yourself VISUALLY Consumer)"

- Cecily Keim

What do you think about them? would you suggest anything else?

I searched for a books section of the forum but I didn't find it!

Hi Cecily,

Oof, the book I was going to recommend has no real help for lefties, I'm a rightie, and I'm not familiar with your books. I couldn't find any lefty crochet books on Amazon US.

Good luck to you. Maybe you could take a class?

Welcome Cecily,

I know lots of people like the Visual Teaching book but I don't know about how useful it is for lefties. There are some leftie videos on youtube but I don't remember where they are. I am sure you can search for them.

Good luck!

Boupie

I searched inside both books on amazon and they both give some instructions here and there to lefties, but I can only see a "search results" page, not the whole pages where they are! so I hoped someone who new them would tell how it is.

Maybe your book, Pauline, has some lefty instructions too, but you ignored them! :P

I will search for the lefties videos on youtube, but I still need a solid base to count on as a book!

The visual seems to be a beatiful and colored edition, but I've seen the answer book suggested in many places!

P.S. I'm ROS, Cecily was the author of the visual book! :)

Hi Ros,

Oops, sorry!

One of the reviewers on Amazon complained about the lack of lefty info in the book I was going to suggest.

although a 'rightie' myself, i was impressed by donna kooler's encyclopedia of crochet, where there are both left- and right-hand pictures to illustrate stitch instructions. might be worth a try, good luck

Sorry ROS! I should have looked more carefully because you gave the other author as well. I guess I am not the only one not paying enough attention. Well welcome again and good luck. Oh and I think 'Not Your Momma's Crochet' had leftie instructions but I am not positive. Good luck and sorry about the name thing again.

what happened? I was sure I had already answered! :P

wobbly, I ordered Donna Kooler's book!

boupie I searched "not you mama's crochet", but i didn't find anything for lefties in it, even if it looks like a nice book!

I did also see "Crochet your way", it has pictures for lefties, but think its patterns look very old fashioned and it's focused on afghans, and that's not what I'm looking for!

thank you very much again!

I am a self taught lefty and have been crocheting for about 3 years. The best book that I have found is by Leisure Arts "I Can't Believe I'm Crocheting". It illustrates every stitch including each step for each stitch with both right handed and left handed. There hasn't been a pattern yet that I haven't been able to complete after learning from this book!

Good Luck
