Hi Everyone. I'm a new member. I never join anything online. But after reading some of the posts and looking at the patterns, I had to sign up. This community seems to be one of the friendliest and most supportive groups that I've ever seen. You guys are great.
My grandmother Helen taught me to crochet when I was a little girl. I can remember figuring out pineapples with her.
Which leads me to two queries.
So do any of you know of books, websites or magazines that contain explicit diagram instructions?
And the nest question is this: My hands are so dry during the winter that they keep on catching the yarn and driving me crazy. Any advice on hand lotions?
I don't know any crocheters so I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks! Michele
Hey MMF, Glad you found Crochet Me! Check out www.mypicot.com for diagrams. They have a lot of diagrams and good tutorials too.

Put vaseline on your hands before you go to bed at night, and wear gloves. This will soften your skin.
If you have a cold, you can put vick's vaporub on your hands instead, and breathe in the vapors through the gloves.

Hey Mad For Crochet I checked out picot.com and already have a pattern picked out... whenever I finish the one's I've already started! Thanks
Hi Michelle,
I love the charts, too. The Japanese magazines have cute patterns and all diagrams which is good because few of us over here can read Japanese. Google to find on-line sellers of the magazines. If I recommend one, I may get my post wiped again.

Hey Michelle! Welcome... I know most motif based patterns contain diagrams (I think several magazines have patterns like that).
As for keeping your hnads moist... whenever you wash them apply lotion to keep the moisture in and keep them from snagging the yarn. I use Olay only because it was on sale but Suave works too. I hope that helps.
hello crocheters and Michelle,
i agree this site has a "homely" atmosphere, and some awesome patterns.
may i suggest using gardening gloves (or even thinner gloves) while you crochet? im not sure if this works or not, but its an idea.
my mom has sensitive hands, i bought her GALAXYL CREAM (not sure the spelling) and she loves it, same with the MOO CREAM (i forget what its called it has cowhide pattern on the container basically the same thing as galaxl but much cheaper)
