I have just started crochet after coming across a book on amigurumi and am currently trying to teach myself - often getting quite frustrated in the process- I havent quite thrown the work out of the window yet. I am hoping that as time progresses crochet will be as relaxing a hobby as my artwork and that I will be able to use my artwork to plan new and exciting creations haha! Wont try to run before I can walk however ;) Seen some lovely work and interesting tips on the site already and am keen to chat and share ideas.
Hi Rainbowz. All I have to say is stick with it - even after you throw it out the window. It'll click! Glad you are here to chat about crochet! Sarah
mad for crochet!
Thanks - this arrived just as I needed some encouragement! Spent over 3 hours on a small piece only to realise I had misinterpreted the pattern and done the whole thing wrong - I ask you ! DOH! Never mind - I will start again. It is all practice and experience - Sarah ;)
Hi!
I don't know that this is encouraging, but you're not alone, and you'll rip back many times.. Ripping out is so common that there's a name for it. Rip it, rip it, rip it is called frogging.
We frog because of mistakes, a change of mind, wrong size, lots of reasons. Just sigh and start again.

Hi Rainbowz
I'm from the UK too, I started crocheting again after a long break. Keep at it, it does get easier, I must admit I've only tried one amigurumi so far. I prefer clothes and projects that use bigger needles and yarn. Those little toys are too fiddly for me. I'm trying to make my own patterns for hats, that involves so much frogging and re-crocheting its not funny.
:) Desipte all setbacks - project almost complete bar finding correct eyes and accessories ! Phew! And so on to my next project - or should I say frustration haha !! (I am enjoying it though really !) Thank you all for your support!
Great, post a pic of your project when it's done. Love to see it.
Thx , I will do - you must promise to be kind though ;D
Hi there,
I've just joined up, also from the UK :)
Stick with it, it gets natural after a while! My tip would be to use good quality yarn for your first projects, it makes everything far easier. Also, if you use lighter colours, it makes the stitches easier to see.
Good luck!
Thanks for your good advice. Getting there ...slowly but surely ! ;-D
I LOVE making amigurumi because it feels like I'm making a little friend. And it doesn't take that long, so you can make a lot of them. And if you mess up things like the gauge a little, your creature will only be a little lumpy, but you can just consider it personality :)
