I moved back to college a couple of months ago and the yarn supply that I brought with me is dwindling. I still haven't found a good place to buy yarn here and I was considering ordering some from the internet. Do any of you have suggestions as to which sites are good to order from?

Here's a start. I've bought from:

www.knitpicks.com and was happy with their yarn and their service.

http://www.littleknits.com/index.php . They have frequent sales, though their sale prices can still cause a gasp. Nice yarns and priced that way.

http://lionbrand.com/ Good experience, though they make you register to get free patterns.

I've heard very good things about www.elann.com though I haven't tried them personally. Check out their free patterns, yum. The other vendors also have patterns, but not as yummy.

Although I haven't ordered from them before, I certainly will the next time my stash begins to dwindle:

They have reasonable prices on Lopi, Paton's & others that I would like to try out...Some even for $1. They do have a minimum $40 required order, though...That might be a drag if you're just needing a small amount of yarn.

I ordered from Smileys. I got exactly what I ordered, it was shipped quickly and I had no problems with them at all. I'm getting together some projects that need the yarn they sell so I can fulfill the $40 minimum.

I have ordered yarn and pattern leaflets/booklets from www.elann.com and have been very satisfied. The free patterns are very nice also.

I've ordered from Elann and from Smileys and am very satisfied with them.

I'm starting to branch out now into handspun yarns and I have to get almost all of it online because there are never any fiber festivals where I live.

One of the first places I ordered from and am happy with is kpixie. Here is their page of handspuns:

In fact I first found them because they were an advertiser in a Crochet me issue!

I've ordered very successfully (Robyn should really cut me off) from Red Bird Knits online. Most of her yarn is lighter weight, lace and sock yarns, but she has some slightly heavier yarns. She provides great service.

Also check out Webs online, a super yarn sourece out of the US.

You have to visit Webs at www.yarn.com. Checkout the clearance and Grandpa's Garage Sale sections!

Herrschners.com has a weekly yarn sale. This is the only site I could find a certain yarn at for Christmas. All the other places were sold out.
