what should I know about hemp?

I am just begining to experiment with different fibers and am concidering hemp for my next project. As my budget is tight, I can't afford to make a mistake and buy the wrong thing.

I have seen some very thin stiff hemp twine in the craft store but I'm sure that can't be what people use when they make bags, etc.

Can any one tell me a bit about what forms hemp comes in and perhapse suggest a good source?

It depends upon what you want to make, but for bags I use hardware store hemp. It's much cheaper and sturdier than the kind the craft store carries.
