I made this cape last winter with yarn that I dyed with plants. Starting at the top, the dye plants for the colors are: Hypericum, St. Johnswort, flowers - yellow Onion skins - orange yellow Lichen - tan Cedar needles - brown Rhododendron leaves - light green mix of lichen, rhododendron and cedar -darker green
I entered it in our local Agricultural Fair and pulled in third prize! All the fame and glory plus 3 bucks!!!
mad for crochet!
Congratulations! I've always liked that cape. I'm glad the judges had equally good taste, lol.
That's just gorgeous! How long did it take to make?

Gee! Thanks! There are more pictures of it in the In Progress section of this forum. This was one of those projects that I worked on over a long period of time. I obsessed on the dyeing last winter and when I had built up enough yarn of the same weight, I wanted to put the colors together somehow. I kept just looking at the skeins and placing them next to eachother in different orders and combinations. I wound them into balls and did some more staring at them for a while. Then I found a really nice shawl pattern and adapted it as I went. It is mostly done in tall stitches, and there are a lot of spaces, so the crocheting didn't really take too long. The blocking was a chore, tho! Sorry to have blabbed on. Glad you like the cape!
