last night I started the Float Away scarf. I made it about half again as long (1.5 times?) because I like long loose scarves to wear at work.
I'll probably finish it up sometime today.
I am also working on a unique pattern that uses a variation of the broomstick lace technique. The problem is that the maker needs a 3/8 - 1/2 inch dowel to do the broomstick part. Maybe a long knitting needle would work? I work with carpenters and mechanics, the dudes were falling all over themselves to find the perfect implement for me (they're so fascinated by it all). The final product was a smooth birch dowel, about 17 inches long with a short rounded taper on the end. It's very lovely and just perfect for what I am doing.
Is it a bad thing to produce a pattern that requires something so specific? I've already got someone lined up as a tester and I might have to send a dowel to her so she can do it.
good? bad? totally retarded?
Hardcore? Hardcore is for babies. I'm HOOKCORE!
I often see knitting needles used for broomstick lace. As an editor, I can say *I* don't shy away from techniques like these (given I just ran a broomstick lace pattern in the fall issue). My take is that every cool technique needs to be out there. (I'm incoherent. More coffee...)
Fueling the crochet revolution...

thanks, that's good to know. I know that marketing the new or different is something people don't like to do as evidenced in the 8,529,665 'reality' shows on television and the endless cycle of movie 'remakes'.
I also want to keep in mind that for any project someone wants to do, they also have to buy yarn, so I don't want to be all "buy yarn, and a tool, and a cherry danish"
though a cherry danish might be nice about now.
you don't need more coffee you just need bigger cups. I went and got me some 12 ounce coffee cups. They very nicely handle my 4 shots of espresso (at 2oz a shot) along with a bit of milk and splenda. This way I can truly say I only had one cup of coffee in the morning.
